Built mess kit rack's + done other
work + goofed off as usual.
Got electricity in and the
radio  playing. Sounds good.
Been cold all day. All kinds
of rumor's.

July 22nd, 1945

Slept to 11:00 o'clock then fooled
around the rest of the day

July 21st, 1945

Arrived at Bruckenau Germany
after 250 mile road march.[indistinguishable text]
but aint started and at 6:00 in
morning + got here at 10:00 night

to Germany. Anna + brother
cried because we were going
They're like brother + sister
to us.

Went to a show but didn't
see it as the film was no
good. Rained.

Nothing much happened. Got orders
that we will leave for
Germany Saturday. Pretty hot
day here today. Bought pistol
from Sgt. Habbeger  .32 Cal.

Took a ride on a bicycle to
next town. Dead here as
usual.

July 14th, 1945

Same thing again today her'se
hopeing we get out of here soon.
Had dental inspection - what
a laugh. Went to Katoby with
Moore and Kerns - Another dead
place.

Friday the 13th and
nothing happened as nobody seems
to be awake enough to do anything
good what a life. This place makes
Darchau look like a rest camp.

Moved into a house
met Anna and her brother
who run the farm.  Sleeping
wither three other guys's.  All
from the Eighth Armoured 399A.F.A.

Dance held in our honor
it took the fellow's a long
time to try out the Check. step
girl's pretty hefty. All good
workers. 6 piece band. sounded
fair like salvation army.

Arrived in Kbely Checzsovockia.
7:30 in the evening. Were greeted
by all the people their. Nobody
wears any shoes and theyve
all got a tan like niggers

Feeling good today slept all
day in house. Everybody

Frank forgot to go on guard

"Victory in Europe"
Today the German Army surrendered
Had a big party. Drink was
Artillery punch. Cognac, Champagne
Brandy + Etc. mixed together
got the drunkest I've been
Sihis + Physter carried me home

Have 3 motor cycles to ride
having a good time. Suppose to
be relieved when the limeys
take the stuff away.

Was put on detail 30 miles
from Hann Munden guarding
a parachute factory good
deal. Little guard at night

Made a survey on Blanfendung
took it + the war is over
for us.  Went to Hannmunden
to sit.

April 26th, 1945

Place is covered with
slaves in striped uniforms
two slaves killed a former
guard, Nobody did anything
about it. One less for us
to feed.

April 25th, 1945

Went to Halberstad. Underground
factories  for buzz bombs.
Picked up  Russian Carbine at
former S.S. baracks. Krauts
left in a hurry.

of a rest camp.  Electric lights

Had a small celebration
pocket is almost gone.

Took Unna. Big railraod
center. Saw 13 R.R.engines
knocked out. Koch picked up
a few prisoners from the

Took West onnon
Almost shot a civilian who
jumped out on us while
we were leading in  the
half-tracks from road.

April 17th, 1945

Took Soest.
      Seen + was with the Inf.
as they took and cleared
this town. Fairly good size.
Krauts shelled us quite
badly.
During this trid as F.O. they almost
got our number a couple of
times. Riped my leg open
while going through a barb
wire fence -- Flying pleanty
of shell's falling close

Went up again with Inf. for

7 day's. Lived on K-rations and

what ever we could find.

Relieved Lt. Stoncypher + crew.

3 half tracks knocked out at

head of column.

April 15th, 1945

Took long road march

to Roer Pocket to help

clean it up. Thought we

would go back for a rest

but no dice.

Took Dorsten near

Patterborn which is suppose to

be taken. Saw tankers take

it with my own eyes.

Picked up Kraut flag in

attic where we were

observing from.

Battery received counter battery

fire from German 105's. No

body hurt. Was with the Inf.

at the time also getting my

share of the action.

April 2nd, 1945

Relieved at 7:00 tonight

by 83rd Inf. Div. seen is

Krauts diggin' in. Fired Mortars

on them. Wish to hell I was

back with the battery. To many

men getting killed here.

April 1st, 1945

Went up with Infantry to

observe as part of an F.O.

team. Lt. Hawley, Sgt. Green, Cpl.

Vandergrift + myself. Took

new hoosen after hard fight.

My first time on the front.

March 29th 1945

Haven't had a good nights sleep

in a week. Went into a

position near a German Army

camp. 35th doughs resting. Bunch

of fellows bought pistols.

March 28th 1945

Met the 35th INF. Their

losses pretty heavy. Saw pleanty

of our boys + theirs in a woods

where they had it out. Most

of the cattle dead in barns.

Blood all over.

March 27th 1945

Crossed Rhine in early morning

went into position where

we will prepair to spearhead

one flank of the ninth's drive

March 26th 1945

Fired all day. Sgt. Koeks

Kocm's gun shot the lan's

out of the tube.

March 25th 1945

This morning we opened up

with every gun on the

front. To pave the way for

the infantry to cross

800 guns in a 50 mile.

105 Inf Cannon Co. in front

of us. Six guns to A battrey.

March 21th 1945

Shot at a deer with my

carbine. Really didn't

try to hit it. Kraut

Planes over again but

didn't bother us.

Still loading ammunition

Kraut plane came over at

night. All machine gunns

opened up on it. Didn't

get. Too dark out. I got

in a short burst (100 RD's)

March 19th 1945

Getting in a tremendous amount

of ammunition. Everybody

working. It's the hardest I've

worked since ----------

Left rest center for

the front again. Arrived

at town across the Rhine

from Duieseburg great

industrial center.

the guns.

Fire large concentration
on crossing of river. First
shell in to enemy teritory
at 2:45 in morning.

Left France for Holland

track broke down but

caught battery soon. Fairly

nice day. Pleanty of dead

cows + horses to look at.

Getting ready to leave here

tomorrow morning.

Occupied our old room.

Windows blown out by

concussion

February 19th 1945

Pushed off for selsden again

as Rien river has risen

in this town. Kraut Patroops

in town every night.

Stayed in position, pleanty of

mud. Got the track stuck

going through a back yard.

Two more tracks stuck trying

to get us out.

Left Selsden for Kirchover, but

things to hot their so went

into position a few miles from

their in another town.

Went on another tour.

Picked up some Kraut money.

Found some bed springs +

a table. pretty nice room

now. Rations came in. Roain

Frank and I went on a little

tour. Picked up some bacon

potatoes + good cherries.

Mad french fries at night

and smoked a cigar that

came in the rations.

Made more French Fries +

ate more cherries. Got sick

on guard but pulled it

as theirs no one else to.

February 12th 1945

Put in windows in our

room. I found a stove

for it. Rest of the house

completely ruined.

February 11th 1945

Frank and I are fixing

up a little room for ourselves

Pulled guard at night.

Lines pretty quite. Buzz bombs

search lights + a little artill.

Slept in a room with Frank

Wolnar. Dirty but nobody

cares when youre tired.

Pulled into a little beat up town

of Selsden. Fighting going on

a few miles from us we are

not in position & the Krauts

are not suppos to know we're

Fairly nice day. Have the top

Wrote first letters

it's been to cold before

now. Fixed up a little

room with stove that

smokes all the time.

January 17th 1945

Warm day so took a walk

found 3 dead Krauts

who didn't duck quick enough

their bodys are froze

blue. This town changed

hands three times.

January 16th 1945

Vetrain A.A. outfit helping

on defense. They're laughing

at the chance of a sky

attack. Riley bought a

.30 pistol. $60 town were

in had quite a battle

This town is lined with

four pill boxes. They're

pretty well destroyed.

Found a booby trap under

a pile of rocket launcher

shells.

January 15th 1945

Candy rations coming in

3 bars 5 pks of smokes a

week. Good thing I've got

a pipe. Mail once in

a while.

January 14th 1945

Issued bed roll inserts

- fair. Were pleanty

hungry now and it hurts

to miss a meal. pancakes

+ dehidrated egg's most

of the time for breakfast

January 13th 1945

French people want

5 gallons of gas for

a bottle of Cognac

Tested .50 Cal M.G.'s most

of them froze up 1 gun

fired good. Also direct

laid with our Howitzers

boys are fair

Weather about zero

taking push ups in snow

damn near froze to death

also long hikes. The

frost collects on our

eye brows, coats + hair.

Really cold

Got in 9,500 rounds for

my 30 Cal. Machine gun

also 3 boxes o "c" rations

+ 1 10 in one ration in

case of emergency

Arrived at destination

really cold out. Sleep

in bars on straw. Weather

Buildings all wreck'd

by shell fire. Kids all

want chocolate. We all

The L.S.T. is in quite a large

convoy. Pulled in on the

Seine river at Le Harve

France. Saw pleanty of

recked German tanks, trucks

guns + planes.

Boarded L.S.T 508 has seen

action at Sisily + Normandy

has one tank + two planes

to it's credit

The L.S.T. is loading with

about 6 tanks, 10 half-tank

6 deeds + some 3/4 ton.

Pleanty of good chow
